Haluatko pilkille? Oletko pilkkimisen harrastaja joka käy pilkillä vähintään muutaman kerran vuodessa? Osaatko irrottaa kairanterän suojuksen ja jaksatko kalareissulla porata tavallisella kairalla useampia avantoja? Osaatko laittaa syötin koukkuun, irrottaa kalan koukusta, ja lopettaa kalan? Jos vastasit kaikkiin kyllä, niin haluamme sinut vapaaehtoiseksi Max Planck Instituutin ja University of Eastern Finland (UEF) :n järjestämään tutkimukseen, jossa tutkitaan pilkkijöiden ja kalojen liikkumista ja aktiivisuutta 3h kestävien pilkkikilpailuiden aikana. Etsimme tähän pilkkiharrastajia, jotka EIVÄT OLE kokeneita kilpapilkkijöitä tai kilpapilkkitaustan omaavia. Tutkimuksessa ei käytetä akkukairoja. Jokainen osallistuja kantaa tallentavaa otsakameraa, gps-laitetta, sykemittaria ja pientä reppuun kiinnitettävää kaikuluotainta.

Tarjoamme kyydin tutkimuspaikalle ja takaisin (lähtö UEF:n kampukselta Natura-rakennuksen edestä klo 08:20 ja paluu noin 16:00 mennessä). Veloitamme pienen osallistumismaksun (10€), mutta jokainen harrastaja-kategorian osallistuja palkitaan saaliin perusteella jaettavalla rahapalkinnolla (10€-50€). Koska tutkimme pilkkijän kokemuksen merkitystä, tarvitsemme tiedon syntymävuodestasi. Jos haluat osallistua tutkimukseen, niin vahvista sitova ilmoittautumisesi tekstiviestillä numeroon 0500 957749. Aloita viesti sanalla “HARRASTAJA”, jonka perään oma nimesi (etunimi+sukunimi), syntymävuosi, ja kaikki mahdolliset päivät seuraavista päivistä jolloin pääsisit osallistumaan: 27.2., 28.2., 3.3., 4.3., 6.3., 7.3., 10.3., ja 11.3. (2025) HUOM! Tutkimukseen mahtuu vain 20 nopeinta ilmoittautujaa, ja sama henkilö voi osallistua maksimissaan kahtena päivänä. Ilmoitamme vahvistusviestissä mitkä ovat kaksi sinulle lukittua tutkimuspäivää. Tutkimus järjestetään keliolosuhteista riippumatta, joten varaudu pukemaan päälle riittävästi lämmintä vaatetta mikäli tutkimuspäivälle sattuu tulemaan pakkaskeli. 🙂

Do you want to go ice fishing? Are you an ice fishing enthusiast who goes ice fishing at least a few times a year? Can you remove the auger blade cover and can you drill several holes with a regular auger on a fishing trip? Can you hook bait, unhook fish, and kill fish? If you answered yes to all of these questions, we would like to invite you to a research study organized by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development (MPIB) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), which will study the movement and activity of icefishers and fish during 3-hour ice fishing competitions in the Joensuu area between 27 February and 11 March 2025. We are looking for ice fishing enthusiasts who are NOT experienced competitive ice fishermen or have a background in competitive ice fishing. Battery-powered augers will not be used in the study. Each participant will carry a recording head-mounted camera, GPS device, heart rate monitor, and a small sonar device that can be attached to a backpack. This study is part of a larger, multi-year investigation to better understand human foraging behavior in a natural context.

If needed, we can provide a ride to and from the research site, as well as all necessary research equipment, fishing gear, auger, and baits for loan. We charge a small participation fee (10€), but each participant in the amateur category will be rewarded with a cash prize (10€-50€) based on their catch. Since we are studying the importance of the ice fishing experience, we need information about your year of birth. If you would like to participate in the study, please confirm your binding registration by sending a text message to 0500 957749. Start the message with the word “AMATEUR”, followed by your name (first name + last name), year of birth, and all possible days of the following days when you would be able to participate: 27.2., 28.2., 3.3., 4.3., 6.3., 7.3., 10.3., and 11.3. (2025) NOTE! Only the 20 fastest registrants can participate in the study, and the same person can participate on a maximum of two days. We will inform you in the confirmation message which two study days are locked for you. The research will be organized regardless of the weather conditions, so be prepared to wear enough warm clothes in case the weather on the research day is freezing. 🙂
